The process of securing cargo in place using straps or banding material is called strapping. Also known as banding or bundling, it is widely used in packaging businesses and industries where transportation of materials are frequently involved. This is also one of the most effective methods used in keeping heavy materials secured in place. This method keeps the containers from opening or falling apart by providing additional strength.

One of the most popular strapping materials today is stainless steel. Like ordinary steel straps, stainless steel straps are very strong, capable of absorbing enormous tension from heavy loads. However, they are resistant to corrosion just like plastic strapping. Because of these characteristics, stainless steel straps are ideal for heavy cargo transportation under humid climates and rust-inducing conditions.

To keep cargo safe using stainless steel strapping, people use essential tools to put the straps on precious cargo. These tools make sure that the straps are tightly wound as much as possible to prevent them from loosening. These tools include the steel cutter, steel strapping tensioner, strapping seals, and the sealing tool.

Just like any other strap cutter, the steel cutter’s main purpose is to cut the steel straps down to size. However, it is much stronger than ordinary cutters to help cut through stainless steel straps. Steel strap cutters usually have long handles to provide more torque and facilitate easier cutting.

A steel strap tensioner’s purpose is to put tension on the steel straps to make sure that it wraps aound the cargo as tight as possible. It does this by holding one end of the strap and pulling the other end with a ratchet. It is much stronger compared to ordinary tensioners, which are not strong enough to pull steel straps. A tensioner sometimes has a built-in cutter, and in some cases, a sealer, making it a multi-purpose stainless steel strapping tool.

For keeping the straps in place, steel strapping seals are used to hold down both ends of the stainless steel straps together. Using the sealer binds the strapping seal in place. The sealing tool looks like a big pair of pliers, with extra long handles similar to the steel strapping cutters for added torque.
